I think everyone needs to evaluate each social media outlet and see if it makes sense for them. I don't suggest that everyone jump on the bandwagon and go out balls blazin'. That would be stupid. I do think you're missing a great opportunity to build relationships with your customers. That is my business - relationship building. I've seen what it can do, and it can make all the difference.

Twitter is a great way to get your name out there, and in terms of what happened to me; will I get a job offer from it? Probably not, but am I branding myself? Absolutely. A high profile PR agency knows who I am, and recommended me to everyone she knows on their US website. That, my friend, is excellent exposure, and I did it all through Twitter.

Twitter is time consuming, but I find that the connections you build, and the things you can find out about your competitors, etc, is worth it. I try to set aside 20 minutes at least twice a day for it (which hasn't been happening lately since I've been so busy), but I really think it can make the difference between who knows you and who doesn't.

What does that equal? Possible revenue.

I can see how it would be useful for networking as well. And that's an amazing that you were recognized by some President. But let's see if that actually turns into revenue, quality exposure, or job offers. I hope it does, and with your personality I wouldn't be surprised, but I'm prone to think it likely won't amount to much. But maybe I was using it wrong, I'm certainly not ruling that out.

My point is, in terms of marketing, sales, or even to develop a relationship with your customers I think there are much better ways to use your time. I think Facebook is much better for customer relationships than twitter.

For me, it all comes back to... "is this the best use of my time?" and I always end up saying, "No" to twitter.

Twitter is a great networking tool. If you don't think so, you're using it wrong.

I use Twitter to keep up-to-date with what is happening in my field, and meet presidents and CEO's of companies all over the world. Because of twitter, I was named a PR professional to follow by the president of a high profile PR firm in Chicago that I have been developing a relationship over Twitter. How else would that of happened?

It may not be great to sell a product, but in terms of networking, it's fantastic.

@Norcross - that's a great testimonial for twitter, and these are the stories I'm interested to hear more about. Because as I mentioned, I haven't seen how Twitter can be more helpful than concentrating your time elsewhere, so I appreciate the feedback. I'm not saying i'll dislike twitter forever, I'm just saying right now, twitter and I aren't on friendly terms. haha.

and just so I know for future reference, what sort of WP work do you do?
