quick note ... i totally agree that it is the partner in the relationship, not the "friend" that is responsible for creating AND STICKING TO boundaries. after all, it's a part of being in a relationship - respect for the other person.

my housemate has a great way to explain what the "single friend" is doing. you are a company and your company is not hiring at the moment b/c your staff position is filled. but, that doesn't stop the "friend" from pre-interviewing with you, becoming familiar with your policies and procedures and what the hiring process involves. this is all in the hopes that if the staff position becomes free, he/she is the first person you think of to interview again for possible hiring. brilliant.

p.s. your ex was either really naive or being manipulative and testing you. either way, in keeping with your argument, not all girls are like that either :)
